Carhartt Reworked Resale Program Expands to Retail Stores
After the successful trial launch of its resale initiative aimed at extending the lifespan of workwear and reducing textile waste, Carhartt, a premier American workwear brand, is pleased to announce an expansion of reworked.carhartt.com. This expansion, conducted in partnership with Trove, will facilitate trade-ins at 35 company retail locations effective immediately, with plans to introduce mail-in trade-ins by late 2023.
Gretchen R. Valade, Carhartt's Director of Sustainability, expressed optimism regarding the program's initial feedback, stating, "We are heartened by the positive response received during the initial three months and look forward to broadening its reach, enabling more hardworking individuals to access durable gear that still has plenty of life left. This expansion underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship and reinforces our commitment to diverting Carhartt garments from landfills."
Commencing July 19, select Carhartt retail stores will begin accepting in-store trade-ins. This expansion follows a successful pilot across six U.S. stores. By late 2023, Carhartt aims to extend the program nationwide, encompassing mail-in trade-ins.
Carhartt's mission to foster a circular recommerce model, aimed at prolonging the lifespan of its rugged gear and mitigating clothing waste, has already resulted in the extension of over 9,000 garments and the diversion of more than 40,000 products from landfills since its inception in March 2023. The Carhartt Reworked program, the first of its kind in the workwear industry, has engaged nearly 4,000 individuals across all 50 U.S. states.
Gayle Tait, CEO of Trove, expressed enthusiasm about powering Carhartt Reworked's nationwide expansion, underscoring the enduring appeal of Carhartt's workwear and the community's commitment to sustainability.
Leveraging Trove's expertise as a market leader in branded resale, Carhartt Reworked refurbishes previously worn or slightly imperfect gear, ensuring it finds new owners who can continue to benefit from its utility. The process is simple:
1. **Consumer Trade-In:** Eligible Carhartt products meeting specific criteria can be traded in-store for a digital gift card, redeemable online or at any Carhartt Company Store.
2. **Mail-In Trade-In:** Starting late 2023, customers can initiate trade-ins online, sending in eligible items via mail for evaluation and, upon acceptance, receiving a gift card.
3. **Returns/Imperfect Inventory:** Depending on the condition, garments are cleaned, repaired, and made available for resale, or responsibly recycled.
Trove's Recommerce Operating System facilitates seamless processing, ensuring scalability while offering end-to-end item intelligence. Unlike conventional marketplaces, Trove empowers Carhartt's unique ecosystem, enhancing customer engagement and ownership of the resale experience.
For Carhartt, sustainable practices aren't just a corporate responsibility but a core value. Through initiatives like reduced packaging and repair programs, Carhartt aims to minimize its environmental footprint, safeguarding the planet for future generations of hardworking individuals.
